Loyal readers and friends,
I’m excited this week to be starting a new project with Open Badges. I have joined the Badges Design Principles Project at Indiana University. Funded in parallel with the DML Badges for Lifelong Learning competition and led by Dr. Daniel Hickey at IU, our project aims to document how the DML awardees implemented badge programs. The team has identified principles in 4 categories of how projects designed their badge systems to accomplish recognition, assessment, motivation and research of learning.
I’m joining halfway through the project in order to help publish the findings and make these principles accessible to those who design badge systems around learning initiatives in the future. We will be publishing case studies and principles on WorkingExamples.org, a community site targeting best practices for those using new technology in education.
I’m excited to have my head in the badges world for even more hours daily.
